Articles by Bill Herring in Professional Journals
My dedication to my profession extends beyond my work with clients to a desire to further the intellectual and philosophical foundations of my chosen fields of expertise. In addition to my extensive collection of helpful online articles, here is a list of some of the professional contributions I've authored which have been published in peer-reviewed professional journals.
As a former editorial board member of the The Journal of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity, I had the honor in 2001 of guest editing a special issue dedicated to improving understanding of the relationship between sexual compulsivity and HIV/AIDS among our country's mental health and public health professionals.
My article "Ethical Guidelines for Addiction Treatment Professionals" was chosen as the lead/cover article for the April 2002 issue of the prestigious magazine Counselor: The Magazine for Addiction Professionals.
In 2001, my article entitled "Ethical Guidelines in the Treatment of Compulsive Sexual Behavior" that was published in the journal The Journal of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity received the prestigious "Editor's Choice Award" for most outstanding article of the year.
In 2004 I authored a comprehensive developmental analysis on the challenges facing the field of compulsive sexual behavior treatment.
I wrote the guest editorial in the 2011 (Vol. 18, No. 2) issue of The Journal of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity, (click here to read a slightly modified version of this article), entitled "A 'Sex Addict' By Any Other Name Hurts The Same". This editorial has been very well received by the nationwide community of experts in this field.
I have just authored another guest editorial for this same journal, which appear in the Vol 18, No. 3 (Winter 2011) issue, entitled "The Nether Reaches of the Addictive/Compulsive Paradigm".
