Bill Herring Is An Effective, Caring, Practical and Creative Atlanta Counselor for Individuals and Couples

Since I can't know exactly what information you may find valuable in order to decide if I'm the right counselor for you, here's a little general background about me you may find useful. But don't just take my word for it: read what people just like you have written about the help I've provided to them.

I've been in the business of helping people achieve personal growth and life satisfaction since 1984, and I'm ready to help YOU live the best life possible. I'm conveniently located next to I-285 at the La Vista Road exit, near Northlake Mall.

Bill herring, atlanta counselorI provide supportive counseling and in-depth psychotherapy to adults, and I work very effectively with both individuals and couples. I'm active, perceptive and engaging in my approach, meaning that my clients and I work together to uncover, explore and resolve issues as deeply and quickly as possible. I'm effective in providing both brief and longer-term therapeutic help.

I'm experienced with a lot of theoretical orientations so that I am not limited to any one counseling style. After all, what works well for one person may not be as effective with another. You'll find that no matter what type of work we are doing, I'm always extremely attentive to how you think, feel and act in order to help you develop and explore strategies to sharpen and empower the way you life your life.

I work effectively with people who are dealing with a wide variety of difficulties. Some of the many reasons people seek my help include depression, anxiety, stress, life turmoil, relationship problems, alcohol or drug use, grief, trauma, issues at work, procrastination, anger issues and many other problems that get in the way of a happy, satisfying life. In addition to "counseling through therapeutic conversation" I'm also trained in the remarkably effective techniques of EMDR and Brainspotting to help rapidly improve the quality of your thoughts, feelings and actions.

Couples find that I'm very balanced and effective with relationship issues. I enjoy helping partners rediscover their feelings of warmth and comfort for each other, stop unproductive bickering, recover from affairs, rekindle hot monogamy, heal resentments and resolve the big and little problems that can get in the way of enjoying a satisfying, fulfilling relationship.

No matter what specific issue we are addressing, my overall goal is to help you develop and sustain a positive sense of yourself -- at peace with your past, empowered in your present, and able to make healthy choices for your future. These are not just idle words or a marketing ploy, but my sincere commitment.

While I regularly help people from all walks of life, I often assist individuals requiring exceptional discretion and anonymity including celebrity and high-profile individuals, "C level" executives, advanced degree professionals and those in sensitive or high security situations or positions.  My discrete office, secluded parking and separate exit provide a level of privacy and comfort unavailable in many other settings. As the sole point of contact, I offer an exceptional degree of personal attention uniquely tailored to the specific needs of each individual.

In addition to my general counseling practice, I've had extensive experience helping people deal with secretive, risky or compulsive sexual behavior such as out-of-control use of internet pornography, multiple affairs, commercial sex services and other forms of illicit sexual excitement that can prove difficult to manage successfully. I was for years a member of the board of directors of The Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH). I coordinated three SASH national conferences and received the first "SASH Merit Award" for outstanding contribution to this organization.

I've also trained hundreds of therapists on a wide variety of topics over the years. I've presented many seminars on the ethical dimension of psychotherapy, and I've published professional articles that are often cited in other publications. You can see some of these under the "Published Articles" section of this website.

In addition to counseling, I also provide consultation and supervision to newer therapists who want to develop their skills to the highest potential in order to become more effective and skillful in their craft. I've also served as an ethics consultant and expert witness for the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists.

Finally, I believe my qualifications go well beyond my education and experience. I'm a husband and father of two school-aged children. For years I maintained an extremely busy private practice which I now limit to the times my kids are in school in order to meet my higher calling as the primary at-home parent during the week. Because of this change, I see fewer clients than I used to, which allows me to be more focused and balanced in my work with those who entrust me to help them.

My counseling office is easily accessible to individuals and couples in all areas of metro Atlanta including Alpharetta, Buckhead, Clarkston, Conyers, Decatur, Chamblee, East Point, Fayetteville, Forest Park, Johns Creek, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Marietta, Milton, Peachtree City, Riverdale, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Smyrna, Snellville, Stone Mountain, Sugar Hill, Sugar Hill, Suwanee, Tucker and surrounding areas.

I hope this brief description of some of my professional and personal background will help you to decide whether I am the person that you want to work with. If you want to know more, or if you think you're ready to set up a time to meet in person, feel free to send me an email or give me a call.
